I couldn't resist tearing down the old clutch assembly to see what the disks looked like, even though I don't have the repair parts :-(

Yep, the release bearing on mine practically fell off the carrier.

I just finished my 861 clutch replacement myself. Go ahead and take your medicine like a big boy. Shuck out from 3 to 4 hundred dollars and get a pre-assembled clutch pack with release bearing, pilot bearing, and double clutch assembly. You may want to check the release bearing carrier also. Mine seized up and and spun on the carrier and wore the shoulder down that holds the release bearing tight on carrier. It goes back together easier than you think

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

It sat(disassembled)on my tailgate overnight to get the rust starting. It was surprisingly pretty clean when I pulled it apart.

Doesn't look bad to me aside from a trace of oil/grease contamination.

It looks like the discs got rusted to the plates not too long ago.

I don't see any problems. Why did you even replace it?

He posted about this clutch on the NTC board. The throw out bearing froze up and ate the fingers off the drive clutch.
