Ford 801 carb issues

I have the Ford 801 tractor with select all shift transmission the carburetor on it when it gets hot after a few minutes will shut off basically it looks like the original that was on the tractor LOL I was wondering if anybody out there has had this issue or if they have another carburetor that I could just get and put on there to where I could use the tractor I am not any good at rebuilding carbs , and do not have a lot of money to buy a new one , mine has the glass bowl attached to the front of it , any help would be appreciated

First off, it is a Select-O-Speed transmission, not a "select all shift".

Second, have you checked for a good quality spark when it shuts down? Shutting off when it gets hot is often a sign of a coil going bad.

Yes the check for spark it has good spark at all times that was the first thing I went to when I started doing it but I forgot to mention it for some reason I have to always choke it and pretty much keep it choked to have it running

Having to choke it all of he time to keep it running means that it is running too lean (not enough gas getting through the carb). And running it lean can cause it to run way too hot which could cause the fuel to boil in the line and then the vapor bubbles from the fuel boiling in the line can prevent enough fuel from being able to get down the line to the carb. Have you tried adjusting the carb to correct the lean condition?

I have tried adjusting the little screw at the top of the carb , wound up turning it in 1 full turn , it sounded better but then died again and would not start back up , thought I would try again after work today

hat shouldn't be only adjustment. look on bottom.

Great news ! I looked more carefully and found the remedy to my problem! I have a 12 volt system with a 6 volt coil !! So I switched out to a 12 volt coil and it stays running great ! Only problem now is where I tried adjusting the top screw on the carb , at low idle I get a lot of black smoke out of the exhaust , if I loosen the screw the motor revs up faster but the smoke stops , I would rather it run smoother and slow idle but am I correct in wanting this or should it be a fast idle ?

dle speed & mixture adjustment are different screws. Appears that you do not have operators manual?

(quoted from post at 18:54:37 08/27/19) No I cannot afford to buy one they are too expensive
our carb should look about like this & idle mixture is top front, idle speed is on throttle shaft/linkage on back side of carb next to engine block, and finally, the adjustment at lower front of carb, next to sediment bowl is power mixture adjustment (at speed, off idle).

Thank you that helped a whole lot I will go out and play with it some more tomorrow after work thank you very very much
