I have a 1993 Ford 3930 that is leaking around pto shaft. I have a new seal and gasket but was told that pto shaft may have to be removed to replace oil seal. Any help will be appreciated.

It's easier to replace the seal after you remove the pto shaft on models with 8x2 trans.
I've never replaced to seal on one with the 8x8 shuttle trans but the pto is different on those models.
Which transmission does your's have?

I did a 3910 last year when I purchased it. Drain the fluid, get everything ready
like N gear, IND PT0 off. Carefully prise the shaft bearing carrier out which will have the shaft intact with it, keeping even pressure on both sides and as
the length of it comes out, keep it centered and supported with one hand. Pulls straight out. Replace seal without turning shaft from removed position
and carefully ease it back in lining the holes of the bearing carrier up before you start re-entry....eyeball worked for me. Maybe I was lucky. Went right
back in. Piece of cake. Change the filter and install new "premium" fluid...required.

There's a thrust washer inside that drops down sometimes and won't let the shaft go back in all of the way.
If this happens push on the shaft while turning in and the washer will walk back into position.
Do not hammer on the shaft trying to get it back in, another poster did that and is now looking at splitting the tractor to make repairs.

OK. I had heard that sometimes the shaft would not go all the way back in. Thanks for the advice.
