I have a backhoe/loader "all Ford" vintage 1962 with a 172 gasser for power; and am looking for a good battery to replace the exide "classic" that is in it presently. I am located in upstate NY where the winters can get you depressed when your rig won't start because the battery you have installed just won/t cut it !!! I assume that the cca's are to be considered firtly and with good reason(s) for the same... Any and all comments are as always apprciated.. thx... JIM

It takes very little battery to start a low compression 172 gas-engine Ford, even in minus 20F temps. Starter draws a max amperage of 200 amps. Subsequently, 200 amps of starter power is around 350 cold cranking amps of battery. A battery loses half its power at 20 below F, so a battery rated for 700 cold cranking amps is plenty.

what ever you buy put a battery maintainer on it. my 960 will start in any weather but it kept out of the weather with a battery maintainer. that motor doesn't take much. 650 cranking amps is fine,
