The exhaust elbow was leaking.

I found the surface of the manifold was not flat compared to the new replacement elbow. I tried to flaten the manifold using a straight edge but my eyesight just sucks any more.

So, I thought about using 2 gaskets under the elbow and maybe the thickness will take up any voids I might have left behind.

Any thoughts on this any one???

If you are giving up on leveling it a second gasket is probably your best bet. To level it without removal you need to use emery cloth on a rigid sanding block larger than the surface.

I ended up not using the new elbow when I replaced my exhaust. The holes in it were drilled wrong such that the muffler was pointing a few degrees out of whack. It wouldn't surprise me if your manifold is fine and it's the elbow that's not flat.
