Ford 4600 tach cable

Hi all, newbie here. On my ford 4600 the short tach drive cable that inserts into the oil pump has broken off inside were I can't get a hold of it. I can only get maybe 1/4" or so of the square end into it. Consequently when I install a new one it only last for a short time before it breaks. Any ideas on how to get it out? The only thing I can think of is to drill it out some how but that seems a little sketchy to me. I open to any ideas. Thanks for the help.

The drive adapter housing comes out by loosening the bolt and lifting the assembly. Then you can remove the oil pump drive gear by lifting it out.
Drilling will be easier with the drive gear in a vise.

Meetooo,
Welcome to the Ford board.
You can pull that drive gear out pretty
easily. I would use a wire or some such
and get under it. Maybe a strong magnet.
It just slips out of there.
Then knock it, upside down, on a board.
The piece might drop out. At least it
will be easy to work on with it out.
Nothing will fall out inside the engine
if you pull it.
