Are the wiring harness the same on a Ford 4400 and a Ford 3000? I have one for a Ford 3000 lying around. The 4400 has a alternator but I have a spare generator from the 4500 lying around.

Not sure if gas and diesel have different harnesses or if gas has additional sub harness for the solenoid to coil connections.

You use the diesel thermostart wire to power the coil.
Just connect it to a different spade on the switch.
The thermostart spade connector is a big, honkin one. Replace it with a "normal" size one that fits the spade on the switch properly.
The start wire that goes to the solenoid works on both gas/diesel.
Pretty easy.

And add a separate wire from the solenoid to the coil for bypass starting.

All the 3 cyl 2/3/4000 and derivatives are the same electrically so yes, 3000 harness will fit.

At the moment, the old wiring consists of power going to the starter, cable going from the coil to the battery and touching off the solenoid. Since the solenoid sticks, just tap it with something. I thought they would have been the same since is the 3 cylinder 0000 series (same wiring harness, coil, solenoid, etc.). This is a gas engine by the way

Today's Featured Article - It's Alright Where It Is! - by Anthony West. I have a tale of a different kind to tell. Whilst rooting in the hedge bottoms this week I had cause to visit Chapel lane Farm, the home of an eccentric gentleman by the name of Austin Kendall. I had heard rumours that an old Case Model C was languishing away in the back of one of the outbuildings there. So off I went in search of what would turn out to be a very rare and unusual tractor. Mr Kendall is an excitable chap to say the least. He is amongst the last of a dying breed of farmer who ... [Read Article]
