Add hydraulic block and filter housing? Possible?

What I'm questioning is if I was to add an adapter plate for auxilary hydraulics to the back, is is possible to plumb in a filter housing that would attach to the inner fender.
I'm not expecting to be able to buy this.

I can buy the filter housing and lines.

My question is about the filter filtering the oil as it circulates, and also being able to still use the 3pt and auxilary hydraulics.

I think worst case cenario, I could have a shut off valve on the pressure side going to the filter. If this flow through the filter means loss of pressure to 3pt and or auxilary hydraulics, it could simply be turned on occasionally when neither 3pt or auxilary hydrualics are used.

Never seen anything available to do this.
Don't think it would be that hard.
But not sure of all details.

1st..... Is it possible?
2nd .... do I want to do this ... will benefits outweigh effort.?..

Glad to hear thoughts and especially any experience in this idea?....

I guess if was easier others would have done it?.... or ?...

ave you found a filter that can withstane 2000 psi?
 
No. Not likely.
And there is the problem.

filter needs to be on the suction side of the system.

Or the pressure needs to be regulated before the filter.

Well, its a good brain teaser.

This guy has made alterations and added a filter.
How is his working? Can something similar be done by leaving the 3pt control as factory, but running the filter off the auxilary valve for the rear remotes?

Ford did eventually filter the hydrauluc
oil - in 1976 - and somehow the tractors
that didn't have filters are still
functioning just fine.
My thoughts? If it works, don't fix it.
 
Ford added an external, spin-on filter in '76. At least some models had them (I think) starting in '65. But they are internal... not convenient to service... so they likely have limited effectiveness.
The one pictured, circled in yellow, is in a '70 5000.

What model tractor is it? The 1965-1975 tractors had a screen on the suction line and a filter on the return line. Both are inside the rear end and you have to pull things apart to get to them. Starting in 1975/76 depending on who you believe as to the starting date for the x600 production run they added external spin-on filters for the suction side of the pump. I read someone's thread a while ago, but I don't remember if it was on this or another forum, where they converted a 3 cylinder 4000 to an external spin-on fuilter using some of the plumbing from a 4600.
 
Ford had a hydraulic filter kit that was dealer installed on 100 series tractors. Not sure when it became available, but was available in 1960. I have an 860 and had a 960 with the kits on them. They use FL1A Motor Craft filters. I suspect they could be reproduced if the right people were available

And I agree if it works leave it alone. Mine, like many, is working great.

At the same time if I am going to add a control valve to run remotes to the back, can I use a return line to run through a filter? ... Maybe dump it back through the fill plug?...

I know his valve is for the actual 3pt.
But just the same. Can't it be run similar off a controller for remotes?...

Sorry about the rotation is off on those.
But I think you can get the idea.

There is pressure line and return line - the hydraulic black hoses to and from the new valve.
Now the larger red line from the " OUT " is running oil to the filter.

The Devil is always in the details.....I can work on details. Or glad to hear others input ....

My BIG question is... Will the principles of this set up also work in adding a auxilary hydraulics.
I still feel the answer is yes.

A standard Ford remote valve like the one on this 5000 will bolt onto your 640.
Not sure if your 640 has a suction screen like the -000 series use or not.
Filtering past the remote isn't going to filter much of the total volume being pumped thru the system, doesn't seam worth the trouble to me.

The internal suction screen in my 4000 broke so I converted it to a 4600 style external suction filter many years ago, but that setup won't work on the older -00/-01 series.
Filters located under the left foot board.
This one took a beating when I was brush hogging some heavy brush but never did leak, it's since been replaced.

There are pics of this kit in the Service Manual. FO-20 page 131
But I did ask the dealership here and it is no longer.
