900 push rod gasket

I know this has been answered before but my push rod cover gasket came with a square cut in
it. Does the square face up or down ? Why if there is a reason

Dan

Probably to compensate for the indentation in the cover for the distributor, But what you should be watching for is the fact that the three mounting holes in the gasket are not in the center of the gasket, likewise the mounting holes in the cover are in a line but not on center either.

Yep.....faces one way....but which way is it flipped?

I would put the hole forward and if I am not mistaken once you line the holes in the gasket with the holes in the cover and the block the hole will be up. If it is put the opposite the gasket will not be a perfect fit to the cover.

Thanks Wayne

I'll take another look when I'm not crazed in the morning. I thought the gasket fit good with the cut the way it is or flipped down. The way the picture is what I originally thought.....the old one I peeled out was solid with no cuts.

Maybe this is a catch-all they made up for a line of older Ford's. Just can't figure why the cut is in the gasket
