hat is an awfully open question. It depends on what is wrong with it. Drive cable, magnetic cup/assy, gears driving veeder root counter, bearings, spring, ????

were do you start ?

You start by unhooking the cable from it
and making sure it isn't rounded off and
the gear and adapter are good on the
other end. You won't be able to find any
parts for the proofmeter and new ones are
cheap.

Eliminate drive system problems first.

Once that has been done, the easiest solution is to replace it with an unreliable aftermarket replacement. The best solution is to take it to a reputable speedometer shop to see if they can repair it.

I took off the cable there are no wires sticking out, just cover cap going to the bottom of the tractor, Can you take off the instrument cover of my 600 tractor. Not much room to work on. Having trouble with unscrewing from the top of the Tachometer. I have big hands. Thanks for your help !

disconnect at back of tach,, see if cable turns while engine running. If cable turns ok and does not slip, its the tach bad, If cable does not turn, pull loose at lower end and inspect...

Lots of times it just a bad tach cable..

then sometimes a bad tach, I put a nail in the drill and use it to test/drive the tach drive..

less often is a damaged drive at the back of the pump.
