I have a 1965 4400 backhoe with cannister type system..Its mounted above the pump in a cannister....cylinder is up in the bolster
..rebuild it with new seals..was wondering what different kinds of fluid can I use for this unit? thanks

I dont think they had that in 1965...so what did they use then?..I think Im going with regular hydraulic fluid..wont be using it
in winter ......its old and would probably leak with anything thinner ...I will see what happens...thanks

You really dont need 134D for power steering in a 4400.

And almost any power steering fluid you can buy,, Automatic Transmission fluid, or tractor rated hydraulic fluid will work fine. There are NO wet brakes, or wet clutches, and there is 54 years of proof that the regular fluid worked just fine.

Did I say they have been using the regular fluids for 54 years with no failures attributed to this fluid in the 4000 series tractors.

Leave the synthetic blinker fluid to the neysayers.

Which sumps? Rear axle/hydraulic sump on a 3 cylinder 4000 has both wet brakes and a wet clutch pack for the PTO.

He is asking about his power steering... please reread the post.

And... there is 54 years of proof that the original spec is just fine for the power steering, the transmission, the rear end, for wet brakes, for dry brakes, the blinker fluid reservoir, etc...etc.. etc..
