'64 4000 power steering cylinder just because

As you can see, this power steering cylinder is cracked from filling up with water and freezing. So I cut it open to look inside.

I never knew it was a cylinder inside a cylinder. Learn sometin new today.[/quote] Was thier a gap between the tubes? I wonder if it is made that way so if you dent it you don't ruin it

There is a gap between the inner cylinder and the outer cylinder. The oil is fed through the gap to retract the piston and through the end of the inner cylinder to extend the piston.

Think about it fells. It is a two way cylinder with both hoses attach to the same end. Ya got to get oil to the other end some how!

So now that it's clean, you can weld the crack up, then put it back together, then weld the end back on, replace the seals on the end, and it should be good to go again. right?

In theory, yes. the cut I made was 1/8" wide but I can deal with that. The ID of the inner cylinder is rusted a little. But the piston rods have rust on them so I think new cylinders are in order. They ain't cheap.
