Ford 501 sickle bar

I had bought a Ford 501 sickle bar mower a while back and
was doing a little work on it today trying to get it ready for use.
Had to replace the pitman arm and belt and with the belt off I
grabbed ahold of the drive pulley that attaches to the pto shaft
and tried to turn it by hand and it wouldn?t. My question is if
that is normal or not? It started pouring rain so I quit for the
day but will continue tomorrow. I?m just trying to identify if
something is locked up or if it takes substantially more power
than just turning by hand to spin it. Thanks.

If the pitman arm is Not connected to the sickle bar and IF the drive shaft isn't bound up on something it should turn easily/freely by hand.

Ok. Thank you. I guess I?m going to end up tearing in apart. Sounds like I?ve got a bearing froze up.

if I remember right you will have to take it apart to clean and repack the bearings. if your planning on keeping it when you get it apart drill a hole in the case and put a grease zerk in it. lot easier to just grease it than clean and repack bearings. don't know why ford didn't put one in there in the first place.
