Does anyone know if a ford 134" diesel head will fit/work correctly on a ford 172" diesel? On the surface it looks like the bolt pattern is the same but don t know if it will function properly? Believe it or not I have a 134" with a bad block and a 172" diesel with a bad head

Your 134 diesel is actually a 144 cid diesel. The head off a 144 will
bolt on a 172 diesel. The valves on the 144 are considerably smaller
which might smother the engine for air on the intake stroke, which
will reduce power and increase smoke while trying to develop full
power. The injector seals may be different on the 144 compared to the
172 so just use the seals compatible to the head. All other things are
compatible.

I can?t speak to the diesel but on the gas the 134 head has smaller
7/16? head bolts than the 1/2? head bolts on the 172. They can be
drilled out but just something to check.

Apologies; I have a 144" not 134"- I mis-typed
