Favorite oil filter

Motocraft FL1A at wally world for $3.45 is always a good choice.

good price, easy to find, and lots of wallyworlds around my neck of the woods. And might be the ford factory filter???? Also my main source for hd oil at best price.

85515HD is the CarQuest number that crosses to the old 300Dual Ford filter. CarQuest filters used to be Wix, but they changed suppliers last year... Fleetgaurd, maybe?

This would be the official factory filter.

This would be a later one with the new holland name on it.

This might have been a bit earlier but still not original.

86546614. Been the NH part number for the 300 Dual filter since before I started working at the NH store in 1996.

Well I went by NAPA today and I picked up a 1714 Gold filter for 24.60. Seemed a little high to me, but I got it anyway. Think next time I will check around. Thanks guys for all your input.

I use WIX and buy them from Filter 1. With all of our vehicles and equipment it's easy to get free shipping.

One of Baldwin's cross filters is BT7316. Under $10. If it works for you, might be worth buying a number of filters at one time to save on shipping. For the times that you can't plan ahead, Napa may still be there with a backup.

The NAPA catalog shows NAPA Gold 1452 (Wix 51452) as the direct cross for the 86546614. It has a higher burst pressure than the 1515 (Wix 51515) (Motocraft FL1A) , other wise specs almost identical.

The 1714 (Wix 51714) is slightly larger in size, rated at 32 micron vs 21 micron of the other two, burst pressure isn't shown.

Wix makes most of NAPA's filters. Generally the part number for NAPA is the same as Wix, minus the first digit of the Wix part number.

Filters closer to the time the 5000 was built would have been a c5nn-6714-b and later a c7nn-6714-a.

The first " Premium 300" filter show to be a c9nn-6714-a

This would sugest the original filter "c5" 1965 design was replace with a "c7" 1967 design that was later replaced with the c9 design in 1969 and the 1969 design is the first premium 300 filter???????????? If the old parts books tell the correct story. The parts book also shows the c5nn-6714-b was a short filter while the c7 filter was the size that we expect today.

The 86546614number is a fiat/case/new holland number that were substituted to replace various previous 8xxxxxxxxx numbers that replace the original ford spec filter number that replaced the original numbers.

Ok, finally got the backside of the early filter on there... The c7nn filter replace the cartridge type filter as it was a larger filter and made more since for the 5000, where the c5 filter was more inline with the gas models early on.
