Bad Bendix?

Would a starter with a bad bendix keep spinning after the tractor starts and after it disengages from the flywheel?

I cant turn my starter off after the tractor starts and my 12v conversion has been working flawlessly over the past 10 years. It is wired correctly. Suddenly the starter motor started doing this. Solenoid works fine. Key switch fine etc.

What do you do to stop the starter?

Do you disconnect the battery cable?

Or?

I don't think the solenoid is working fine. It's sticking internally. Try whacking it with something. If the starter stops, there you have it.

This issue is a moving target.

New solenoid today. New switch and push button switch.

I replaced these today because they were old and have been in the weather. Spinning starter and smoke from it was yesterdays issue.

Did not change any wiring locations on solenoid. This conversion has been fine.

Now - i turn they key to on and it starts the tractor.

Starter motor as getting very hot to the touch. But it was not continuously running.

Seems like i cant get the button switch to do its job. Current seems to be from key switch only.

Murray, you never said what tractor you have. Does your 12 volt conversion still use the OEM starter button on top of the transmission cover? If so did you get a ground activated solenoid?

Murray, does the post from JMOR with the diagrams and the answers to all of your problems show up on your screen?
