Rear tire repair?

I ran a piece of elm tree stump through my rear tire, about 3/8 to 1/2 inch diameter. Tire guy said he thinks he can repair it with a boot. Just wondering how this will hold up. Seems like sticks will tend to go through the repaired area and puncture tube. I can't afford a new back tire though.

A boot will hold fine. Last one I ran a
stick through had a hole I could stick my
thumb through when it was aired back up.
It bugged me so I filled it with black
silicone. Lasted a good ten years before
it fell out. Didn't bug me then so it's
still there.

Tires were repaired with boots for years.Cars and tractor tires. Most
tires are now tubeless. I haven't seen anyone using boots for years but
they work great.I haven't even seen any for sale.

Thanks everyone, I picked it up today. Turns out there was no hole. What I thought was a stick puncture was only in the knob, not all the way through. When I drove up on the stump the bead must have leaked past the rim. There is a tube in it but it had an old leak that they patched. The tire itself had no punctures anywhere. It was also leaking from the valve stem. Weird story, guess I should have tried putting air back in it first. Whole job was $84.
