TRY AGAIN: Replacing Decal on a SOS Control

I have to install a new SOS decal on the shifter of a new to me 6000. My question is, do I have to take the cable and conduit out of the transmission to disassemble the control? Is there anything to be careful with?

To answer your second question... there's everything to be careful with! Also read the service manual.

Can't fully answer the removal question but on my 671 I can remove the opposite side from the handle (in my case the left) from where it bolts on the hood and to the right half and get pretty good access to the shift plate. On mine the conduit to the transmission is part of the right side housing. I would try to replace the decal without removing anything else at that point. Again, that is on my 671. Yours may be different. Hopefully someone with 6000 experience can answer better.
