Ford 6610 synchros

Just lost most of the gear in a 1982 or 2 Ford 6610 with the 8 spd with 4 reverse tranny. Gears 4 and 8 still hold. Simple fix or does the tractor need to be split into 3rds?

I would take the top off and evaluate it and consider getting a used ones. MacFadden could have one. Where in MA are you?

I m down in Sutton ma. The tractor simi died at a friends house when we were plowing a field. All of a sudden when shifting to 2nd, the tractor wouldn t hold 2nd or 6th.

(quoted from post at 16:35:37 05/27/19) So it was the shifter?

They are quite clunky, need to go through mine and replace bushings.

At this point, yes it was the shifter. A snap ring and washer dropped causing the first two gears not to work. When shifting into first or second, when you pull up, there is weight on the washer and snap ring and when shifting into third or fourth, the weight is taken off.

The tractor still doesn't hold any odd gears. The shifter just slips out. You can hold the shifter up into the odd gears, but if you let go, it will slip a few seconds later.

(quoted from post at 20:51:18 05/27/19) Turns out that part # 38785 (snap ring) kept coming off from what it seems. Part 7

In case someone looking for the part, the NH parts website doesn't appear to work any more

Thanks. The snap ring was part of the issue, but the biggest issue was the tractor needed a synchro for the low gears. When we pulled out the old synchros, the low side on one side had the teeth worn down and sliding it back and forth, just slid. The new one fixed the problem. We did both. There was two plastic washers we couldn't get so we made up the room inside the transmission.

Is this a full split job?

I think we paid $300 or $400 per syncro. When we had two New Holland dealerships around. I don t know if the prices were much up or what, but I m not complaining. The dealership were I got it from stopped selling tractor parts a few years ago and became a tractor supply type store
