641 pto shaft

When I hook the mower up to the tractor the pto shaft moves inward causing the pto shaft lock button to rub against the pto flange bolts.Is there a snap ring that is supposed to hold the pto shaft still ?

Yes, it is on the inside so you need to pull the shaft and retainer out the back of the tractor. Probably best to replace the seal while you have it out.

Also make sure that the external PTO shaft for the mower isn't too long. If it is long enough to push the tractor's PTO shaft forward at any point in the raising and lowering of the lift the new snap ring won't hold it in place for very long.
