Does anyone know where to find the clip that holds the prop rod in side the hood. looks like 3000 and 4000 use the same kind.spring steel slides in a clip inside hood.

Part number is 81819305. partspring.com and Messicks both claim to have them in stock, so you should be able to get the from any New Holland dealer. Be careful of the sticker shock. partspring only sells them in a package of 2 for $39.50 and Messicks sells them individually for $20.94, so I would bet that you will get a similar quote form just about any New Holland dealer.

I realize these aren't exactly what you are looking for. But these would work to store the hood prop.

You might get a year out of each of those nylon clips, and at 10 per pack for $5.65 a few packs would last you 20 to 30 years and still be cheaper that the metal one from NH. My '73 4000 still has the original clip on it as far as I know, so that one lasted 46 years so far, but are you going to still own yours 45 or even 30 years from now? I guess I'm saying it's up to you to weigh your choices and suit yourself, it's your tractor.

Someone makes it aftermarket but I do not yet recall who. I bought one a few years ago. Thought it might be Crosscreek Tractor but they don't show one.

looking at the clip I thought it would be a 2 or 3 dollar item. as you say who will be driving this tractor in 20 years. not me for sure. but I am a nit picker so rather than jury rig it I will search for the correct part or leave the hood prop in the tool box until I need it.
gona try NH on tues and see if I can wine and cry to get a discount.

If the flat piece of metal tab is still welded to the hood, and the clip part is gone...... I take an ice pick, and push through/under the middle of the tab where its not welded and raise the tab just enough that a "hair pin" slides through, and this hair pin will hold the rod just fine. Cant tell you how many times the wind has blown a hood down on me as the rod is gone.

That idea got me to think of a new clip. found a piece if metal that would slide under the clip on the hood , bent a 90 on it and formed a hook around a piece of 1/4 rod. painted and bent the tab that slides thru to hold it in place. almost looks factory
