1955 Ford 640

I was bush hogging last night and ran out of gas. I put gas in it today and it started right up. I bushhogged about 100 yards and the tractor stalled. It will not start back up and stay running longer than a few moments. I sprayed some starting fluid into the air intake and it fired right up and would only stay running as long as I sprayed it. I dropped the fuel debris cup and dumped it out and it was clean. Why would I not be getting any fuel? Help! Thanks in advance!

. Remove the sediment bowl then open the fuel valve to see if you are getting fuel. the valve or tank may be plugged

am getting fuel there at the bowl, also with the bowl attached I am getting fuel to the carb. I am not however getting anything from the drain at the bottom of the carb....

Did you check the filter at the carb. inlet

That narrows it right down to the float needle valve. Sometimes a sharp whack on the side of the bowl with an 11/16 combination wrench will free it.

I don't know... an 11/16" is probably good for an 800 series, but he might want to drop down to a 5/8" for a 600 series.

But seriously, I prefer the wooden handle of the biggest screwdriver I have for tapping on carburetors. I'm just superstitious about banging metal on metal.

I will give that a shot this morning!

I almost specified Snap On flank drive as they are longer than most others so the whack is a little stronger, but I didn't want to be accused of promoting a brand.

My 651 did this, I guess the old Rubber Tip own the Needle Dried and expanded in the Seat. Beat own it with no result. Had to drop the Bowl to get it unstuck.
