Ford 3000 4dlt battery hold down, Wow$$

I am looking for the battery hold down for Ford 3000 diesel with the 4dlt battery. I think the p/n is 83925344.
Anyway to get this OEM or aftermarket for cheaper than the 103-140 dollars I see on the net? I kind of balk
at one pound fabbed part costing so much. Is it specially insulated or something?

I might have an original one of those I'd let go of a little cheaper.
I'm done using 4dlt batteries. They don't last unless you use the tractor every day and they have a poor warranty.
Am going up to our property this weekend and could look. I know I have a couple of them for a gasser. If you want to email me I could look on Saturday.

I use black ruber Bungie cords. Have 3 Fords and the two '65 up models are that way and the batteries fill up the tray with terminals on one end. On the '63 I use a Bungie also but terminals are on both ends. No problem.

I too am done with 4DLT batteries, got less than 18 months use from the last 2 with only 12 month warranty.
I've been installing a 12" longer ground cable and switching to Group 49 batteries, plenty of cranking amps along with 60 month warranty.
Doesn't take much to fab a automotive style across the battery hold down to keep the battery in place.

I found some 1/2 inch wide wire ties long enough to go around the battery and tray. I also went with an auto battery, cut a block of wood to take up the extra room in the tray.

Well I have a newish 4dlt battery. I was tipped off that a group 65 battery would be big and cheap. But nooo, I had to have the original. Now I can look forward to it crapping out about this time next year? Come to think of it, the New Holland branded 4dlt I replaced didn't look that old... and nobody punched the date on it.

As for the official ($140 @Amazon) battery hold down, is there any chance if it came loose it can short out to the + post? A little story, the tractor came with a "non-stock" hood prop rod. As you opened the hood, it first dragged across the negative battery post, and then the positive! I have replaced with aftermarket original type. In my post "Ford 3000 not charging", someone posted a picture of a burned down tractor.... So I will ask, for whatever reason, are fires common with the Ford 1000 series?

The battery should be secured, that said only 3 of my 7 ford tractors have the battery hold downs in place.
These tractors are more likely to catch fire from a mouse chewing on the wiring under the dash than from the battery shorting out.

Found this uxcell Black adjustable Battery Hold Down on Amazon for $18, with a piece of 1/4" dowel rod and a welder you could make it long enough to work.
FYI the factory hold down from NH is $104

Not sure but I just mounted a 10lb amerex to my roll bar. Being a gas tractor I figure it cant hurt....

Lot of tractors burn down every year. Lost of place for chaff, blown in leaves and dirt to built it's own tinder pile. Or that tinder pile can be hauled in by nesting rodents. Then bare wiring due to rodents chewing on them or just rubbing through cause a grommet went bad? Then add in a small fuel leak or what ever and it burns. Don't matter what color it is. My BIL burnt an AC 8070 (180 or so PTO HP with MFWA) a couple of years ago. They are certain it started as an electrical fire. I've seen the fire blackened carcasses that originally were green, red, blue, yellow, grey, silver, white (Bobcat) and orange.

Fire extinguisher is a good idea as long as the user knows when to step back and get out the marshmallows! They can quickly go from a small fire that can be handled with a 5 or 10 pounder to something that can injure you or kill you.
