bolster for 860 ford

Just talked to Eric at Walt't Tractors. He told me the bolster for a ford jubilee is the same as one for an 860. Difference being pin for axle does not have threads. Is this correct?

Hi Kirk,

At the present time my friend has the tin off his tractor. Bolster would fit with exception of mounting tin? I think his loader mounts to the front bolster. I live in Seattle and tractor is on an island in the San Juan Islands. Will be going to the island after June 2. 100 miles away from where I live in Seattle. Helped my friend put the loader back on his tractor. IT attaches at back axle housing both sides but do not
remember how it attaches in the front.

Not sure how close the 860 is to the 3000 but if it's anything like the 3000 a farm fix would get it going for cheap. You say the threads for the pin are gone. On a 3000 there is enough room behind the axel (between the axel and bolster) to be able to weld the pin to the bolster. Can you put it together with a new bushing and pin then put a few tack welds where it threads into the bolster to hold it in place?

Just guessing...

He stated that his friend has a loader on it. With the front pulley bracket there's not much room there on the back side of the carrier.

Bob,

Appreciate your thoughts on helping me repair my friends tractor. Want to be sure that the pin does not come loose again and fall on the front pto for the pump . It just broke the 3/4 inch drive shaft for the pump for the loader. I welded front of the pin to the bolster two years ago. Weld broke and turned pin loose. Had I known how the pin worked two years ago would have removed the loader and front of tractor.
Would think a pin without threads and an end that could be bolted to front of the bolster would be best. However think we have to be sure pin is secure in both parts of the bolster. This time thanks to You and others on the forum have a lot better knowledge of how the bolster and pin work

Bob,
Sending a picture of the loader frame attachment to the front bolster. Also picture shows the pin about an inch out which has turned the axle loose. Wanted to know if loader frame on these tractors typically attaches to the front booster? Paulson loader on my ford jubilee attaches under front of tractor with two large bolts. It may also attach to the front bolster, now sure.

Most loaders from Ford in that time period, except for the one arm loaders and maybe the light duty "farm loaders", did attach at front of the bolster and under the rear axle.

Sean,
Thanks for sharing knowledge. Should my friends decide to buy a used bolster from an NAA I Will need to weld a couple pieces of channel to the bolster. This "helping" job becomes more involved all the time.
Included a picture of our 1953 ford jubilee with a Paulson loader I found and bought it several years ago. It attaches both sides rear axle and underneath at front. Maybe attached to the front bolster. Holes were threaded so all I had to do was put in the bolts. Had to add a hub to front pulley-Removed front of tractor, and built a support for the front mounted hydraulic pump Is this what you would call a light duty farm loader? It is very heavy built.
Picture of our 320 case loading the bucket on the jubilee. Bucket on the case is from a bodcat bucket I adopted to the case. Thumb is built out of 3/4 inch steel. Loader on case industrial 320 much heavier Ground is so full of rocks in this part of the northwest found it better to load the jubilee bucket then take out the rock. Thanks Chris, Do You have good ground where you have for growing things?
