Ford 640, 1956 ... converting to 12V

How can I tell if the system has already been converted to 12V from the original 6V? Looks to me like a newer alternator has been installed awhile back and noticed the coil is labeled as 12V but not sure if thats just standard or not?
Basically, what all would I need to do the complete conversion?

This is a new project so I'll have more questions.

(quoted from post at 14:24:46 05/20/19) If it has an alternator, the tractor has been converted to 12v

So I could remove the generator then?

In your first post, you told us the tractor has an alternator, now you ask if you can remove the generator????

If the generator is still present, where's the alternator you told us about installed?

never mind, obviously it doesn't have a generator. I guess I could just get a new battery and see if it will start/run/charge.
I think I'm clear on what system is on it now. Just a little confused earlier what a conversion would consist of, at least I won't have to get that, unless the alternator is bad.

If it has alternator and is 12 volts it should be negative ground. If it is 6 volts with genny, it normally would be positive ground.
Just FYI.
