1983 Ford 5610 MWFD Question

Previously I asked about value and thanks for your responses. So I m trying to decide if I should sell it for a later model. I have most items fixed now including a new steering sector. The steering is my biggest worry with this tractor as I understand the early hydraulic setup is not as robust as the newer hydrostatic systems in the 85 and later models. The new steering sector wasn t cheap either so wondering if this system is so weak that I will probably have more issues. I need the loader so I know the extra weight is the issue. This being said I m trying to decide on the following:

1. Keep what I have provided it s expected to hold up ok.
2. Keep Allied loader and use on newer Ford 5610-7610 etc
3. Go with newer New Holland or Massey Ferguson tractor.

Thoughts?

Thank you,

Ford should have never used that integral power steering on tractors with MFWD - the tires are just too big for it to handle long term without issues. Putting a front end loader on it only exacerbates things.

IMHO, if you intend to use the loader hard, ditch that machine for something else.

Ok understood. So if I choose to remove the loader and sell the tractor would those brackets still work on the 85-90 model cab tractors? I would think so but I m not 100% certain.

yes and no.. the mid mount brackets will usually bolt up.. but may not be in the correct position......Longer vrs shorter tractors require the mid mount be pushed forwards or backwards. Some loaders have an adjustable nose piece to help this.

there are some minor differences in the front bracket mounting holes and even widths on various fords of that period. rowcrops vrs all purposes for sure, 40 series vrs 10 series etc. Sometimes as simple as re-drilling some holes, other times a good welder is needed. 90 hp tractors usually had the extra bracing. SO.. again, maybe yes, maybe no.

If you stay with the same chassis size the loader will swap
5000, 5600, 6600, 7600, 5610, 6610, 7610 are the same basic 4 cylinder chassis.
Row crop models have different front bolsters and would require different mounts.
To use your loader and upgrade to a tractor with hydrostatic steering you'll need to look for a 5610, 6610 7610 built between mid 1985 and 1993.
If looking for another cab tractor Ford introduced the Q-cab on 10/85, all models with Q-cab have hydro steering.
Easy way to recognize a Q-cab model is the larger roof and rectangular lights.
Not 100% sure but I think they are all Series II models as well.

Not mine, just a photo I found for reference.
