NAA Steering Box Rebuild - 8N33546 Alternatives

I am in the process of rebuilding my NAA steering box and have run into an issue finding reasonably priced 8N33546 packings. Has anyone else ran into this issue? The 8N33546 that I have found locally are $18 a piece. A little pricey. I have been told that YT used to sell them, but I don't see them online anymore. What is the function of the packing and has anyone used some sort of alternative in place of the 8N33546 packing?

Thanks,

Hiney

Looks like that little cork "packing" ring seals between the adjusting bolt nut/washer and the cover.

That's an AWFUL price for a tiny bit of cork!

I would use an o-ring or simply a small amount of silicone sealant.

You could buy some cork gasket material and make your own. Or go to a hardware store and rummage through the rubber washers in the fastener department.

Thanks for the responses. Those were the direction I was leaning, but wanted to see if anyone else had run into a similar situation.

A quick google search showed a supplier for 8N33546 at $3.50 a pair .
