860 12v Wiring Diagram

Hello all.

The 860 I bought a month or two ago is up and running. Needs some carb tweaking, but I m happy with it overall.

I completed required it, but am having issues with the charging circuit. It came with a three terminal Motorcraft alternator and your normal 3 post ford voltage regulator.

I m not familiar with the STATOR terminal at all on this alt; I understand generators and 10SI series alternators.

I d appreciate any help letting me know if this wiring diagram [i:a33ca66bcc]should[/i:a33ca66bcc] work. Yes, I left out the ignition circuit for simplicity.

I get only 12.7 volts at the battery running at 1250 rpm so it s not charging.

I m not opposed to ditching it in favor of a Delco, but hey...run what ya brung.

ooks like you have an alternator wired to a generator voltage regulator. Thank Bob for this simplified diagram.

The master himself....

I saw that old post yesterday while on Google but couldn t see the pic.

So I need a ford automotive v-reg? Simple enough. This is what it had when I bought it but no clue if they actually got it to work.

And I don t use the Stator lug on the alt?

Thanks JMOR and Bob

o use for alternator Stator connection here. In previous life it was for electric choke/tachometer/regulator turn on, etc.

Thanks. Now I know what it was used for.

I ll have the alt checked next week before I buy a regulator. They look to be about $15-$30. I ll through a cheapie at if the alt test good.

Can get a 10SI for $50 if the alt is bad.
