Turned out to be negative battery cable no good. Replaced them both.

Bernie, thanks for the update. So in your case, the engine would crank O.K. but you had weak or intermittent spark? Crazy.

The engine would only crank off the jumpbox, starter button wouldn"t work, lights worked. Spark sometimes, other times nothing. Took hours to pinpoint problem. First thought was solenoid when the the button wouldn"t work.. Ended up putting the old one back on.
