Replacing front axle support bushing. I have applied 12 tons to the bushing and it doesn't budge. Anyone have any idea how much heat I can
apply to the center axle to see if this will break it loose. Or does anyone have a better idea on how they did theirs .
 
if its just the bushing take a chisel and chisel down one side. just be careful not to get into the casing.
 
I just changed mine along with the pin. I had no luck with pushing and got tired of chiseling and finally took the oxy acetylene torch and carefully cut it out. It was a piece of cake and I should have started with it. You d actually have to work at it to mess it up as heat doesn t transfer quickly to that big chunk of iron.
 
I personally have not done this, but I have heard of running a bead of weld inside of a cylinder liner to shrink it to remove. Might try this for the bushing.
 

Apply enough to really heat up the old bushing red hot. You can't apply enough heat to warp or shrink the cast housing so heat that mother up with an oxy acet torch, when it cools down it will shrink.

Or drive a thin flat blade screwdriver in between the bushing and housing. Don't worry about scratching up the housing, your new bushing will cover it up.

Be advised that the bushing is hard.

Might want to grind a weak spot with a die grinder.

Got it out by grinding a grove along the seam in the bushing . Then using a small chisel in the grove . Your correct that is one hard puppy but very little damage to the center axle. Pictures to come for the clutch shaft
 
Here are the pictures of my clutch pedal shaft. It's not very pretty , but the bushing fits tight and the pedal is snug. Trying to talk
the boss into let me get a bigger chuck (3/4 or 5/8) for my drill press, or a small lathe so I can turn shafts and bushings. Seems to be a
lot of these parts we can't buy new . I keep telling her it will be cheaper for me and others.
