3 cylinder rear main in backwards

It's been many years since I did my 3000 but I "think" I recall that the bearings have a lip/detent/tab that forces you to put them in properly.

Course in thinking whether or not it matters, if there is no tab then the bearings are symmetrical as I recall so why should it matter which one is which
and which way matters?

If the bearing was put in the main cap
backwards, with the tabs not in the
notches, the bearing will be too tight.

While I've never made that mistake myself, nor seen it done, I've gotta think it won't seal very well if
it's installed backwards.

Pry it out, get a new one, and start over.

. It will leak Remove it and buy a new one! when I do something like this I call it paying for my education! I hope the the engin still out of the tractor?

No, the tractor is all put back together with a fertilizer spreader on the back

".....when I do something like this I call it paying for my education!" I do a lot of that. Problem is that most repairs are far enough apart that I forget the
subject matter between operations. Grin.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe you are mistaken about making a mistake. I do that a lot.

I have that problem too. Also forgetting where I put something like glasses because I usually don't pay attention when I remove them or thinking about something on down the road and current events are not part of the thought process.

If you put the seal in backwards while the tractor was upside down, then that's the reason that it doesn't leak. :D
