Clean Them Filters

Working on the neighbors 2000 diesel ran across this happening on the lower intake hose.
PO wasn't to keen on maintenance I guess. Soaked the filter in diesel for a day, kept dunking it up an down in a bucket. Took it out, found a couple of small rocks, lots of dirt. Also found what looked like lint sucked up into the filter material.
Decided to buy a new one.
Here's what happened when throttle was applied, and that was minimal, if revved higher the hose would almost suck down shut.

Actually it didn't until about 2100 rpm going down the road.
Guess that's when the hose really got sucked in.
Lesson learned.

I always wonder when shredding fields full of rag weed and other junk where it all went. Guess thats why some folks used the taller stack with the separator on them.

On the subject of cleaning your filters, I was reading a (diesel) fuel filter neglect item somewhere, maybe here and as a result I got to thinking that it's
been years since I went through my herd and changed them out. So I did. Glad I did it before I had injector problems like were discussed in the article.
