4000 - Broke the carb fuel inlet like an idgit

So, I was so proud of myself. Dipped the carb off my grandpa's 65 ford 4000, cleaned it all up, put it back together with a rebuild kit, and the last thing I had to do was screw in the fuel inlet with filter screen and i must have ran it too far in and it cracked the boss around the fitting. Ruined.

Waiting for this place to open so I can call and see if they have any rebuilt one's in stock. In the meantime, and correct me if we are not allowed to do this, but does anyone know where to find an old holley caqrb for a 4000? I already paid for a rebuild kit. i hate to buy a rebuilt carb and waste so much money.

Mr. Google has been little help.

With fitting screwed in.......

clean it with alcohol... then clean it again, then clean it again. let dry... sand it lightly, clean it again...

the mix up jb weld and apply in thin layers over the crack and where fitting meets the carb... as the layers set up a bit, carefully apply another very thin layer, let set a couple of minutes then another even thin layer,, each layer about as thick as piece of paper give or take.

let set up for two hours or more, install carb and check for leaks...

If cleaned well, and rough up and then cleaned well again, I have had mostly success.

I even repaired a plastic radiator tank a week back but,, was able to get a piece of sand paper on it to rough it up and used lots of alcohol to clean it... left the cap off all night, next day filled it, the owner drove it off, never to leak again. Some days you just get lucky.

You have a 50/50 chance of saving the carb, but the fitting will be forever in that carb.

I have used small strips of paper towel to build up JB quickly. Also JB is magnetic, you can use a magnet to shape JB while it sets up.
