'63 4000 gasoline ignition switch. Dealer wants $38.50 for new CNH switch. Says he can get a "Gold Value" (in his words, "Ford's cheaper line") switch for about $9.00. I asked the quality difference between the two. In his opinion it's nil or next to it.

I'd never heard of "Gold Value." Anyone else? Guess for that price difference, I'll try it and see where we go.

For the price difference, you can buy 4 of the "gold" switches, and give 3 to your friends. I just put a new switch in my '61 tractor, and it was an easy job. I dropped the air cleaner out, but only because I wanted to clean things up by the voltage regulator. As I recall, I paid about $10 for a new "quality" switch. Perhaps the CNH switches are keyed exactly like the original. I don't know.

Around here, the New Holland dealer is warning about faulty key switches from A&I and some from NH (ended up going through 4 in 3 years). Was told finally on # 4.

I've bought Ford ignition switches from various sources. Most are of low quality. FWIW: I do not recall buying one from CNH.

The last time I needed one, I bought a "Restoration Quality" (identical to original) switch from DC. No more problems.

IIRC, it cost about $10 more.
