Erratic fuel gauge - 6610

My fuel gauge isn't very steady (Ford 6610). Is this normal?

no i have a 6610 and the fuel gage works good your sending unit might be bad

The gauge on my 6610 is steady as in doesn't bounce around but it's off, when it get's down near 1/4 tank your about to run out of fuel.
Stays on full forever, full to 3/4 takes a while, 3/4 to 1/2 doesn't take long, 1/2 to 1/4 is pretty fast.
Not long after we got the tractor I run it out of fuel out in the field when it got down to 1/4 tank on the gauge, now when it drops below 1/2 I'm looking for fuel, haven't run out of fuel since.
