ford 600 coil

I have a ford 600 and my question is, does the coil have a built in resistor ? If not does it need one? Tractor is 6 volt. I tuned it up with new plugs, wires, points, condenser, cap, rotor , and coil. It ran good for a few months. Now it won't start and has a very weak spark. This tractor isn't used very much. I got the parts from YT.

So you bought parts a few months ago without knowing what parts were the correct ones?

What coil did you buy when you replaced the old one?

That would tell you whether it needs an external resistor, but if it is a 6 volt system then it should not require an external resistor, and if it has a coil that is designed for no external resistor on a 12 volt system then it is not the right coil for that tractor. But I don't think it would have ever run correctly that way, so my guess is that the coil that you bought is the correct type for your 6 volt tractor and should not require an external resistor.

Since it ran for a few months and now has a very weak spark, my guess would be that the new condenser has gone bad. They are mostly imports from China or India these days and are less reliable than the old one that you replaced if it was old enough to have been made in the USA.

You need a 6 volt coil, no resister required. Did you toss your old one? If not, put it back on and see what happens.
