I've done it this time. Stupid mistake. Big money fix.

I've had endless issues with the hydraulics on my Ford 4000 and after suffering an internal breakage on the flow control valve, I had been back feeding the rear lift hydraulics using the auxiliary gear driven pump on the back of the engine that powered the loader

My tractor came with a 3 lever valve block. One operated the loader lift, one the crowd (bucket/forks) and one was spare. I wanted to be able to run a hydraulic log splitter from the back so I had plumbed in a remote feed and return. In order to maximise flow (and negate the need for holding one of the loader valves back) I had fitted a cut-off valve that isolated the loader hydraulics and gave 100% flow to the back. Not a problem when something was connected but when something wasn't connected, I ended up with hydraulic lock. I don't even know why the valve was closed as I haven't been using the splitter but when I went to move the tractor (as someone was coming over to view it, with the hope of buying it) - it started fine but there was no pressure to the loader hydraulics.

It turns out that the gear on the rear of the camshaft (EAF907B) has broken. Engine still runs well so I suppose it hasn't done much permanent damage, but even if I can find a replacement in the UK, it's a major job separating the front of the tractor in order to fit a new one.

Not a happy boy.
