Found this engine at a salvage yard this morning.
It's on a screw compressor, engines stuck, looks to have been setting out for a while.
Not sure if it's a 172 or 192, any way to id one.

Don't know why it loaded this one upside down
Casting # D3JL6015J
Didn't know they where still casting these engines in 73

I would say 172. I have '73 and '76 engine in 192 but they are gas. They made industrial 4 cylinder engine up into the mid '80s. You can still find them in
chippers and jacobsen tractors and sometime on irritation pumps

I have a 172 in a '63 2000. Casting # C0NN-6015H and it's right side up. Differences I see is what looks to be a mechanical operated fuel pump which
requires a flange cast into the block (mine is gravity feed) making the casting numbers different for that reason if no other.

Thanks everyone.
I have a 62 881 but most of my usage and repair work has been concentrated on the 65/up tractors.
Didn't realize they had continued to build the red tiger engine for that many years.

The vast majority of hits from a Google search for D3JL6015J agree with each other that it is a 172 ci engine.
