Ford 3000 lift not lifting

Have 3000 ford diesel, just bought, pto works fine, but lift doesnt move at all, What could be the problems? I do not see a stick to check hydro fluid so what am I looking for and what could be the problem?

To check the fluid level there is a plug on the hydraulic pump - undo this and pour oil in the filler until it starts coming out.

If it's anything like my 4000 the PTO doesn't depend on the hydraulics (because my hydraulics are shot but the PTO works fine)

On a 3000, the PTO and the 3 point lift are not related in any way.

There were three type of PTO available on a 3000:

1. non-live (transmission driven) - This type of PTO gets power when the PTO handle is in the engaged position and the clutch pedal is all of the way out with the engine running.

2. Live PTO - This type of PTO gets power when the PTO handle is in the engaged position and the clutch pedal is halfway out or more with the engine running. It is called live because it can get power when the transmission is not getting power when the clutch pedal is in hte halfway out position.

3. Independent PTO - This type of PTO was only available on the 3000 if it had the Select-O-Speed (S-O-S) transmission. The indepoendent PTO on th eS-O-S transmission was controlled by th ehydraulics that were internal to the S-O-S transmission, which is not related to the 3 point lift hydraulics.

The sump for the 3 point hydraulics is the rear axle center housing. There is no dipstick for that sump. The fill plug is a large hex head plug that is directly under your right butt cheek when you are sitting on the tractor. The level check hole is located on the right side, near where your right heel is when you are sitting on the tractor., It has a small square headed pipe plug in the hole. The level is checked by removing the fill plug and level check plug, and then adding fluid through the fill hole until it just begins to drip out of the level check hole. Beware that there is flat slotted screw near the location of the level check plug. Do not remove that screw buy mistake as it holds a bracket in place internally and if that screw is removed the bracket usually moves out of place and the only way to get it lined up again is to open it up.

Thanks everyone, but maybe it is OK. After putting hydo fluid in the lift it started working? Wont know final results until get tractor
running again.? about to start thread on tractor shutting off?
