Had pump rebuilt and need to know how to get engine on number one and not at 180 degrees off. Setting at 18 degrees. Pump had ring broke and couldn't set pump marks together before removing to keep engine and pump time together. 1963 4000-- 4 cylinder

First, timing should be 23 degrees BTDC, not 18. IF the pump drive in engine is in correctly and has NOT been removed, just align the pump offset drive tang to the drive offset groove and install the pump. Only other way is to remove the valve cover to verify cylinder FOUR rockers are at TDC overlap to make sure one is on compression. Very early engines were at 18, but most were changed to 23 same as later engines are.

It will be in timing range IF the drive has not been removed from engine, if it ran there before , it will be close to final timing with the tang offset matched up.
