Installing tacho drive cable (6610)

The little stub cable was broken on my 6610 when I bought it, so the revcounter doesn't work (if I spin the cable with a drill, it does, which is good).

I bought a new drive cable (the one that's about 5" long) but installing it is proving to be decidedly difficult. Undoing the screw on top of the cover allows me to remove it (taking the oil filter off gives better access, albeit making a lot of mess) but I can't see how to remove anything else. Trying to poke the cable stub down is possible without the cover, but I can't seem to locate it with it inserted into the cover. Any tips on how to do this?

Thread bolt #28 into adapter #22 and pry out with a vice grips. Put complete #22 assembly together, insert
cable, and then install complete assembly into block. If need be, lift up oil pump drive gear to help align
square drive.

So it should just pull out? The adaptor (leftmost item in assembly 22) does turn and move up and down slightly but haven't been able to move it more than that.

When you say "lift up oil pump drive gear" you are referring to #13 on this page?: https://partstore.agriculture.newholland.com/us/parts-search.html#epc::mr50411ar361588

Couldn't get it out but after a few attempts and with a piece of thread to pull the drive into position, I finally got it seated and my revcounter is working again!

it can be hard to pull the cover... and impossible to rethread with a frontend loader on.. You need to be able to see the top of the oil pump drive gear, when you reinstall with a new cable.

I work the cover assembly back and forth with a pair of channel lock pliers and it slowly comes out.

Today was the first time I've used my tractor without something needing fixing (albeit after finding a loose electrical connection and tightening it up)
