641 Water in transmission and Hydraulics

My new to me "61 641 has water in both the tranmission and the Hydraulic reservoir.

The Rear axle looks ok

I see the shift boot is cracked and presume the water got in there.
I will replace that.
Could the water have gotten into the hydraulics through the loader's cylinders ? I see no cover that could have let it in.

Or could the transmission and hydraulic oils have mixed through a leaking seal.
How can I tell which way it got in?
thanks
Wally

Moisture also gets in through condensation with temperature changes. Always a good idea to change all fluids in a recently aquired tractor to begin your own maintenance schedule.

You cannot.

Even with a good shifter boot, water will contaminate all three sumps over time due to contamination.

Replace the shifter boot and change all three sumps.

Most folks follow current CNH recommendation and use 134D in all sumps.

Any time you have a surface that is free to access ambient air whenever that surface is cooler than the ambient air, the moisture in the air will condense
on the surface......think glass of iced tea sitting on the table in the summer on a humid day....same thing....yes the boot could help too but the big deal is
the mass of the cast iron machine. An easy check of the physics of what I said is if you have your tires filled with fluid. Your tires cool down overnight on
a chilly evening and come daytime, the ambient temp warms up much faster than the liquid in the tire so the tire "sweats" and you can see the level of
the liquid fill....same thing happens in your gear boxes. Just drain, flush if you want, and refill. Be on your way.

as you have been told, drain the wet sumps and replace. if it was me, the wet ones, I'd dump in a pint of alcohol and a quart of
diesel and some atf fluid.. do a victory lap around the farm, then drain, then refill.

A couple more questions now that I'm ready to get to work.

Should I run the tractor and the hydraulics whit it drained to get more of the old oil out?

Or will I have trouble bleeding it or damage the pump?

WhenI pull the lever to raise the loader it drops a bit until I pull it further. This is troublesome when I want to raise it just a bit. Anything I can do about that?

thanks
Wally
