Maintenance schedule..Hours for oil change?

Depends on oil, season, how used, or if you even have an hourmeter or not. I usually do it seasonally unless I dont use
it much in the winter.

I change it when it gets dirty (not diesel black tar like you find in a lot of neglected diesels) or every year whichever comes first.

I've got a working hour meter, use quality oil and filter. I was doing the once a year oil change but now find myself using the tractor a lot more.

Eman85,
My 4600 manual says 300 hours for oil and filter.
I have never gone that long. I was told, and it makes sense to me, to use 40 miles per hour as a estimator to compare tractor hours vs car or truck mileage.

So if you are the type that changes oil every 3-4000 miles on a car or truck, then about 100 hours (4000 miles equivalent).

There are a LOT of other factors that would affect your decision:
Dusty conditions
Type of oil used
Length of time between changes
Weather (many cold starts)
Contamination
?
I could go on.
YMMV LOL!

I normally go 200 hours between changes but have stretched it to 250 if nearly done for the year.
A few tractors that only see 40-50 hours per year get changes every 2-3 years.

That's my point with owner's manuals and service manuals fluid change intervals. These things are printed for anybody with any background, in any place in the world, under any set of conditions bla bla bla. It's probably a SWAG anyway. Used to be you had to worry about Sulphuric Acid eating away at your metal if you didn't change regularly but the sulphur is gone bye bye and if the oil is clean, there isn't any or not much crud to scratch up your metal. Economy of scale is my motto.

Texasmark1,
I read a little further in the Op Manual. It stated if the Sulphur level of the fuel was over 1.0%, you are to reduce the change interval to 150 hours. Also said not to use fuel with over 1.3% Sulphur.

With our UL Sulphur fuel of today and synthetic oil you may go longer.

It's up to the individual.
