Splitting 641 between transmission & rear something stuc

The motor and front axle are off.
All wheels are off. Tractor on the ground.
Supporting rear section with 6x6's
Supporting steering section with boom pole.
All? bolts are off between sections.
Letting front drop, opens slightly the top & side seam.
Bottom of seem still seems tight.
I did nothing to the PTO shaft.
Should I?
I thought it would just separate at some point?
Hydraulics are removed and open.

Help

You have to remove the PTO shaft before separating the trans from the rear section. The PTO shaft is engaged in a seal between the trans and rear end, so pulling the shaft will let the two sections separate.

That sounds reasonable and not too difficult.
I saw a video of a guy removing the transmission (4 speed)
and I thought he left the PTO in. I thought there might
be a bolt I missed underneath.
Tomorrow I will use a boom pole to lift up
the front high enough to look closer at
the underneath.

You need to remove the cover with the PTO shift lever as the lever is engaged in the PTO support which is attached to the back of the transmission. It is not necessary to remove the PTO shaft though it might make it easier when you put it back together.

(quoted from post at 15:54:50 04/29/19) You may have missed a bolt on the bottom, it should separate some even with the PTO shift lever in place.

Yes the video I saw did have the PTO shift cover
removed. I should have thought of that.

Corvetttteguy, alot of us tractor guys are also car guys. With your user name, you got some four wheeled toys that are faster than tractors?

See what happens when you get old.
I remember 2 bolts but only
removed one..

This is one of the best forums on the net.
The people here have a vast knowledge
and are generous in helping people.
I am willing to attack most jobs on tractors
because I know when I get stuck there is
always someone here who has done it before
and is willing to share information.

Thanks

George
