Brake adjustment

Need to adjust brakes on 74 Ford 3000. I see the tabs that should be removed. Is there a star adjuster inside there like on car drum breaks? Looks like it. What direction will I need to turn it up or down to get more break?

Yup, just like the old drum brakes. I think one side is left hand threads so the adjusting action is the same direction for both sides. You'll have to experiment to see which way to turn them.

If the setup is the same as my 65 3000 you turn the adjuster to the front of the tractor to increase pressure on the drums.

I'm pretty sure the adjusters are the same on both sides right hand threads. Right and left hand adjusters came out after self adjusting brakes.

(quoted from post at 18:31:41 04/27/19) I thought the star wheel has to go up or down.
Not fore and aft.

Ultradog is right. The access slot is vertical, and you use your brake tool (or screwdriver) fore and aft to adjust the brakes. Clockwise will adjust the shoes outward. What I'm trying to remember, is if I had to use the traction disconnect on my 871. I can't believe that I would have had it running in neutral to adjust the brakes. With both back wheels off the ground, it was an easy job, that I remember.
