I just got the motor back from a rebuilder. he says the two post on the solenoid need to be connected. I guess you have a diesel, they need a lot of torq to spin . the two post give more amps to the field to spin the motor. but if you have a rebuilder near I would ck with him before trying the new solenoid. hope this helps

Two post is an automotive style but will work fine.
The second post was used on cars to supply full battery voltage to the coil when the starter was engaged to give a bit hotter spark while cranking. Look close to see if the small posts are marked S and I. If so use the S terminal. If no marks, connect it up and use a small jumper wire from the + side of battery and see which one makes the solenoid click. Connect your start wire to that one and disregard the other one.
Easy peasy.

Ford 3 cylinder gassers had bypass starting from the factory as well. A 4 post solenoid is correct when configured properly.

Solenoid on a gas tractor isn't mounted on the starter, that bulge is a cover for the arm that engages the bendix.
Solenoid is located on the battery support bracket, follow the cable from the starter back to the solenoid, it will have 2 big studs and 2 small ones.

The rebuilder must be thinking of a twelve volt with ignition bypass. The two small terminals have nothing to do with the amperage to the
starter.

My 4000 had it. Pretty sure they all did. The OEM solenoid used on all post 65 gassers is configured for that feature.
