Do these tractors have select-o-matic? If so how can you tell? Is it labeled some way? I have no experience with these tractors.

Thanks

The 601 was available with the Select-O-Speed transmission. The most obvious difference with this transmission is that the shifter is bolted to the dash rather than on the floor (actually, the transmission cover) like the 4 & 5 speed transmissions. Also, it has 10 forward speeds and 2 reverse speeds, plus neutral and park. There is a cable (like a brake cable) that transfers the shifter position info to the transmission itself.

selectomatic was an automatic trans. I'm sure someone else will have another opinion - but I'm also sure that if you buy one with a selectomatic, you'll probably regret it. Never heard anything good said about it. Take it back, one guy told me it was the happiest day he could remember - the day he sold it.

It's S-O-S Select-O-Speed. Opinions very greatly on performance. With a little experience you can tell the difference at 100 yards.
