Ford 600 Alternator Question

Realized there was a Ford specific section....

So I very recently picked up a Ford 600 and don't know much about it except for what I am quickly learning by searching this board. It is sluggish starting and PO had to jump every time we started up (figured it was due to the cold) After getting some more time to look everything over I found a wire on the harness to the alternator almost severed (maybe that's why battery cant hold a charge?). It seems to have already been converted to a 12V system with an alternator, and it is a 3-wire plug. I called customer service about their harness assembly but it is a single wire harness. Anyone know of what kind of alternator this is, and where I can find a new harness/connector?

I need to give everything a good cleaning just in order to read any placards/ID plates. Appreciate the help, as I'll be posting a lot I am sure (hydraulic issues on 3-point)

Since you just got the tractor, how do you know whose wire harness was installed on the tractor? Whose Customer Service Department did you call?

I called Yesterday's Tractors customer service to inquire about the harness they sell, to see if it could be a replacement for my existing harness however they only sell the single wire.

Ok thanks, I'll do some research after cleaning it up as well.
ost common is Delco Remy (GM) but it has TWO wire plug and single bolted terminal. Post a picture of rear end of it.

If its a gm 10si 3 wire get a Replacement 6V harness... JMOR has the lowdown on converting it to a 3 wire 10si... If not he has a big box of crayons :) and likes to draw...

do like pictures/illustrations! "Picture is worth a 1000 words', ya know.

...............but, Hobo, there is nothing like the experience of having BTDT! And you 'might' be up on me there. :)

It appears you have an older "Nippondenso" alternator.

As to the 3-wire quick connector, "L" connects to the dashboard charge warning light.

"S" is the voltage sense terminal, for best voltage sensing, a wire from there connects to the battery cable terminal at the starter solenoid, or it typically works well enough just to jumper it over to the alternator's large output terminal.

"IG" connects to the "switched side" of the ignition switch, basically turns the alternator on when the ignition switch is "ON" and "OFF" when the ignition switch is turned "OFF" to prevent battery drain.

The large output is "B", is connected to the battery, or the Ammeter (if used).

This diagram illustrates the connections.

Several fuses are shown (which is nice), but it's unlikely the guy who converted it installed them.

Does that help?

The taped plug seems to be the old single wire for the generator?
efinitely not the common Delco 10SI ! Doesn't look like Ford, Motorola, Motorcraft, .... Someone here has probably seen it somewhere, so maybe they will step forward.

Could be... Its a Nippon-Denso are Bosh alt with a external regulator more than likely a ND hook up is very similar to a GM alt...

Thanks Bob, diagram is helpful...so my options:

Find a new harness for this?
I could find a new plug and try and re-pin the existing wiring
Get a whole new setup?

Honda, Izusu, opel and Toyota 70's tru early 80's my guess...

Thanks all, I brought it in to a local Automotive Electrical shop...said it was a Mitsubishi. The 3-wire plug should be going to an external voltage regulator (which I'm pretty sure doesn't exist). The brushes were sticky and the bearing was shot.

Ended up just buying a new 12V kit from here so I'll replace the alternator and the whole wire harness.
