converted my 640 back from failed electronic -pertronix - ignition to points. better points from NAPA. lost / dropped point lube and cannot find. A long time ago it was possible to buy correct lube for pointa? Tractor is now running, but point cam is very dry. What would be the correct or best lube to buy? I figure it would have to be a NAPA part. Walked into a competitor store and sales clerk did not understand what points and condenser were?

This is what I use, just a little dab rubbed on the distributor cam. Also works great on the outside of the spark plug boots to keep moisture from getting between boot and plug.

Now there will be people all over me on this but, . Wipe a finger over the end of your grease gun and put it on the distributor cam. Job done!! Has worked for me for decades

Won't get a hassle from me, that's what I used to do. White lithium grease works well also. You're just trying to keep the rubbing block from wearing and changing the point gap. Only reason I now use the dialectric grease is that I now have it (originally for the plug wires so I could work in the rain), and it does NOT conduct electricity.

"Echlin ML1 grease" at NAPA.

I think they may have changed the tube graphics, part number looks to be still good.

The BEST distributor cam lubricant is distributor cam lubricant, available at any good auto parts store (may need to order it).

Others use other lubricants.

I think that we need to see an evaluation study.

I just use plumber's grease.
Get it at any hardware or big box store.
It is high temp and has the added advantage of being waterproof so you can drive your tractor under water.
