Ford 801 Auxillary Transmission?

I have a Ford 801 tractor I just purchased. It has a shift lever on the left side that looks like a factory option or a dealer add on. It has forward, neutral and reverse. So if the 4 speed trans is in first gear and the add on gear box is in reverse, the tractor goes in reverse. I have attached a picture of the linkages (at least I tried to do this). Its not a Sherman as I have ever seen, maybe a Hupp? Hope someone out there recognizes what this is and what its purpose is. Thanks much.

The idea behind it is for say front loader work where max hp and traction isn't necessary but ground speed is needed. Put transmission in 3rd then shift aux lever between r & f to travel near same speed forward and backwards. Normally found on industrial tractors more so than row crop models.

It's a Sherman reversing auxiliary transmission used on front end loaders and forklifts. It's so you can go just as fast backwards as forward depending on what gear your main transmission is in. I like mine because it reverses the pto, good for digging holes.

I'm curious, after the model number stamped on your frame, is there also a "-S"?

I have a '64 4000 that sadly, the Sherman was removed before it came to be mine. However after the model number has a "-S" stamped on the frame.

No catalog or manual I have seen says anything about a "-S" marking. It seems to be a bit of an anomaly. It was here, in this forum, that I learned that it likely represents that my tractor once had a factory equipped Sherman. (Sooooo if you don't want yours....)

However, my model number, 41300-S also suggests that it does not have a PTO, but it does. (Probably a dealer installed option.)

Anyway, just curious, that's all.

One of ours has the S stamping. We used to have one that had the regular 4 speed with its own reverse and the Sherman in front of it. You could put it in double reverse and it would go forward.

This sounds like "showing off" ... but that's what I'd do it, if I had double-reverse.

Thanks for the info and the picture, there is evidence of yellow paint on the fenders, so assume it was a commercial model of the 801.

I pick the tractor up today, will ck the serial no. for an S. I now think this was a commercial painted yellow 801 so it had as a dealer installed option or factory this Sherman reversing aux transmission. thanks to all that helped me to identify this.
